Yes, yes, yes Matt! So much truth here. Best article on design I’ve read in a while.

I’ve been writing about these same things for ages, because I’ve been doing this for my entire career. I’m a freelancer, which make being “full-stack” a necessity. But even for employees within design teams, this is becoming the expectation, not the exception.

Being a really, truly, irreplaceable, valuable designer and business asset is about being a specialized generalist, because being T-shaped allows you to find those cross-discipline solutions that other’s don’t even see. It’s about being a project manager and product designer who can work autonomously and make fluid connections between business and design. It’s being that consistent singular vision that can facilitate a creative process from start to end. And it’s about being a business strategist, not just a designer.

Full-Stack designers are the future, and the future is already here for most of us. The rest will be left behind.
