Why do you think balancing data with instinct diminishes the credibility of design? Data and instinct are two of many tools a designer has to help make the best decisions. Wouldn’t you want to make use of all the tools available rather than relying too heavily on one? I see the partnership of data-driven design and instinct as empowering designers not diminishing.
