I've experienced the full range of how long a design projects takes (and how to estimate it) but never took the time to really document and quantify the thought process in my head. You've done an excellent job of explaining all the factors in terms anyone can understand. I might just share this with any clients who are having trouble understanding why certain things take as long as they do.
