Here in Auckland we have “The Pond” and “The Creative Store” which are both like traditional recruitment agencies — who specialise in creative/design roles — but they also have a large roster of freelancers as well as people looking for full-time work. They have employers come to them who are looking for creative talent, and they help match you to the right roles. They usually take a feee from the employer and also sometimes take a feee from you in the form of a percentage of your rate.

I signed up for both of them, and to be honest have gotten not one job from either. That’s partly because I only work remotely, and most of the freelance roles they find are for people looking to bring a contractor to work in-house.

While I haven’t personally had success with these recruitment agencies I know people who get almost all their work through them.

Wherever you live is likely to have recruitment agencies as well — you just have to check that they cater to freelance/consulting gigs and not just full time employment roles.
