Dirk, yes that’s a great way to help deal with this situation, but I find it harder to do in practice than one might think. Mainly because I don’t know many (if any) freelancers in my area that do the same type and level of quality work that I deliver. And I don’t want to recommend someone that will produce a sub-standard result as that reflects poorly on me. So I end up more often recommending small design agencies that I’m familiar with, but the clients are probably preferring freelancers (that’s why they got in touch with me in the first place!). I wish I had more local freelance colleagues that I could trust to give referrals to when I need to.
